The old password hashes are deleted, and Kemble opens when the server is busy

Kemble stopped using passwords on 25 October; the password hashes kept from before then, and any password-reset links, are now deleted. The app also opens reliably when the server is busy, and calls, recordings and Watch together each get fixes.

Passwords set before Kemble retired them were kept as Argon2 hashes, never used. They are now deleted from Kemble’s database, together with any unused password-reset links, and the code that could hash or check a password is gone. Copies in database backups are gone within 14 days, as the backups age out.

Nothing changes in how you sign in: a code or link we email you, a passkey, Google, a phone number or your organization’s single sign-on. Old password sign-in, reset and change addresses still answer, saying passwords are retired, so an old app or script is told what to do instead.

Kemble opens reliably again when the server is busy. The app now sends at most eight requests at a time, in the order it needs them. If the server is full and turns a request away, Kemble sends it again a moment later without telling you, so the screen no longer half-loads.

Calls: a Decline left in your notifications now declines only the ring it came with, never a later call. When a guest answers a call on one device, their other devices stop ringing. Missed calls now show in Kemble Work’s Activity. When a caller gives up, or a group call ends while someone is still being rung, the ring now leaves your phone’s notifications, even with Kemble closed.

Recordings and Watch together: a recording’s notice names the person recording as the room calls them, with their community nickname where they have one. If the browser recording cannot capture the picture after all, the recording becomes sound only and everyone in the call is told so. On a stage, the controls of a watch party pass only to a speaker or a moderator, and listeners are offered none. A video’s length reported by somebody who does not control playback can no longer end it early.

Email addresses: while support is moving your account to a new address, changing it yourself says so, and asks you to finish the move from the link or ask support to cancel it first. If another account takes the new address while the link waits, confirming says so instead of failing.
